Consultation on the "Fisheries and environmental policies" WWF WAMER in Mauritania  

 


The workshop for consultation on the "Fisheries and environmental policies" WWF WAMER in Mauritania began Sunday morning in Nouakchott.

 

This workshop marks the beginning of the action of one of the most important international organizations operating in the field of environmental protection and rationalization of natural resources (WWF, Wamer) in Mauritania.
It also aims to exchange views on the best way to protect the Arguin Banc, one of the largest and richest marine protected areas of West Africa.

 

On this occasion, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Mohalmed, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development said in his opening of the workshop that this meeting is part of efforts of the Department for the Environment aimed to pace the effective protection of resources in this area against fishing boats unauthorized stressing that the discussions will also cover all issues relating to the program's fisheries and environmental policies " .

 

The minister expressed the hope that these efforts are reflected positively on the lives of local people and people throughout the country in general under guidance of the President of the High Council of State, Head of State, General Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and the government's policy of Prime Minister Mr. Mohamed Ould Moulaye Laghdhaf.

 

He thanked the development partners of Mauritania for their constant support to our country in the field of environment and sustainable management of our natural resources.

 

Previously, Dr. Sidi Mohamed Ould Moine, Director General of the National Park of Banc d'Arguin (PNBA) delivered a speech in which he indicated that this program is a collaboration between his institution and the funds Global Environment (WWF), indicating that for more than 15 years that this international organization supports energy efficiency and our country in the surveillance of maritime PNBA.

 

The director of PNBA said that the meeting will be devoted to the theme of "sustainable fisheries in Mauritanian waters.
Mr. Ould Moine also said that the meeting will review the various challenges, the program will face.

 

For its part, the representative of WWF in Dakar WAMER welcomed the efforts undertaken by the PNBA, noting that Mauritania is a country where experience in the field of protection of maritime areas is the most successful.

 

It should be noted that the PNBA was established on 16 June 1976 to oversee a marine protected area in the world which is a third of the Mauritanian coast and is one of the largest maritime areas where traffic is motorized boats prohibited.

 

These intertidal zones n'on suffered no human pressure for several thousand years.

 

The maritime and coastal reserve is home to 60% of funds often the most productive marine in the world.
