The indemnification of Mauritanian children "jockeys" who participated in the racing camels in the United Arab Emirates between 1992 and 2008 has ended.
The announcement of the closure of the program was made Sunday morning in Nouakchott by Ms. Salama Ould Lemrabott Cheikhna Mint, Minister of Social Welfare, Children and Family Affairs which stated that the State of United Arab Emirates, in accordance to an agreement signed with Mauritania paid compensation to 463 children and under the supervision of a committee comprising one representative for each of the two parties.
The Minister added that the merger integration and compensation for former child jockeys is a way to lay a solid foundation in the field of child protection against any violation of their rights in the future.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Compensation Committee jockeys children emphasized the role of government of Mauritania in the successful operation of compensation, thanking all involved for their contribution in organizing and advocacy before remit to the Minister the distinction of "Shield of the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates" in reward for his efforts in this field.
